Recommended Hospitals for TFMR Around The World

Below you will find a list of recommended hospitals and clinics. These places are all recommended directly by parents that have been through a termination for medical reasons.

Parents rated their hospital/clinic from 1-5. 1 being they would not recommend it, and 5 being highly recommended.

Each entry below includes the name of hospital/clinic, the hospital’s location (country, state) and are from all over the world, gestational weeks that the parent recommending underwent TFMR, the procedure type (D&E or labor/delivery), the rating, and any specifics that the parent wanted to make sure to mention.

I’ve done my best to sort geographically below.

They ensure that you are physically well cared for but do nothing to comfort your emotions in the process. They do not offer any keepsakes or emotional support to ease the emotional experience. They do not follow up with you to see how you’re doing after the procedure.

I couldn’t recommend Dr. Lacey Harding enough. She was very caring but also honest and upfront. We need more doctors like her. The care at the hospital was great too. A random nurse held my hand while I cried in the hallway waiting to go in the OR.

“Majority of staff very empathetic, main midwife even stayed over an hour after end of shift to deliver our baby boy. After care unfortunately non existent, although may be because I travelled out of area.
Definitely ask in advance for butterfly suite or get put on main labour ward😪 butterfly suite very comfortable with kitchen, living room and separate en suite bedroom.  Well looked after, would have been a lovely room if not for the reason we were.”

Hopkins was amazing. We were referred by Maryland Perinatal to the Fetal Therapy group at Hopkins. The procedure was treated with sensitivity. We were introduced to the chaplain, and a child life specialist to help us manage our older daughter’s grief (2.5 years old at the time). The two of these women took care of everything for us. They made a keepsake box and it was filled with items when we came home. They helped us to create a birth plan, and made sure that everyone on the staff was aware of our birth plan. They coordinated efforts with our photographer, and took care of everything you could imagine. They were both there at midnight making keepsakes after our daughter was born at 11:22 pm. They made hand and foot molds, prints, etc. We are invited to a yearly memorial service for the children lost at Hopkins. The nurses, genetic counselors and the two women mentioned above keep in touch with cards, and texts even 2 years later. Nothing short of amazing people here. Read more about the wonderful people at Hopkins and how they helped us here.

There was no judgement and all understanding from everyone involved. They were willing to write a note for work for as long as I needed. I can’t say it was a great experience because of what I was there for but they made it as painless as they could have.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Boston, MA
Labor & delivery- induction via cytotec and pitocin

“It was not the hospital where I had had care to this point, but they welcomed us with open arms and no questions asked. No one wants to meet doctors and nurses under these circumstances; no doctor or nurse comes to work on a given day knowing exactly what they’ll face. Supporting a woman or couple through labor & delivery following a termination has to be one of the hardest things they do. And every single doctor or nurse who came into our room was compassionate and understanding. They did this hard thing with zero judgment and only love. We felt cared for from beginning to end on both the physical and emotional fronts. We knew what to expect every step of the way. All options for chaplaincy, seeing our baby after delivery, and capturing memories were made clear. The social worker who spent time with us was terrific and has continued to offer support after discharge. Again, I cannot imagine a better experience for what I hope will be the hardest thing I ever go through.”

“Due to the late stage of my pregnancy (diagnosis was received at 36 weeks), I was unable to access care for termination in Massachusetts. My hospital directed me to this Clinic. We flew there and back in the same day; at first I couldn’t imagine how this was possible, but it was. The procedure was a straightforward injection and I was not in any pain for the return trip. The staff and treatment at Dupont were incredible and I cannot imagine a better place to go through such a heart-wrenching experience. These humans are angels – risking their lives every day to help women and families at every stage of pregnancy. The staff members, nurses, and doctor demonstrated utmost compassion and understanding. No question was too big or too small. They gave us all the time we needed both before and after the procedure. And they were willing to be in touch with the hospital when we returned home and I was admitted for induction. (Note: for late-stage terminations, they generally recommend patients travel home to deliver. GW Hospital is a great option for patients who choose to stay in the DC area for L&D.)

How You Can Help

I’m collecting data on Hospitals and Clinics. One of the most important things, is that we, as parents going through a horrific time in our lives, receive the support that we deserve.

We went to Johns Hopkins in Maryland, USA.

I had a labor and delivery at 19.5 weeks gestation. I can’t rate them high enough on their support to us before, during and after.

They helped us with our 2.5 year old daughter to make sure she had the resources she needed to get through her grief.

They had support staff showing up to our appointments to make keepsakes and help us prepare.

They were there when April Rey was born, close to midnight, making keepsakes and honoring her life with memory boxes and more.

The nurses went above and beyond.

They invited us to a memorial service in honor of the children lost at the hospital.

They call. They email. They write.

Out of 5 stars, I’d give them 100.

I’d tell you to FLY to Hopkins to receive the same treatment. This isn’t a moment that you want to be treated poorly. This is a moment that you will remember the rest of your life. It should be treated with sensitivity, respect, and honor. Hopkins did that for us.

Please take a moment to fill out the form below. I want to know the hospital/clinic you went to. I want to know if you would recommend them.

Let’s create a database for parents so they can find the closest place to them that will provide the best service.

Please also tell us places to stay away from. We need to give other parents a heads up to that as well.

Thank you.

I’ll update this page as I get entries.
